IBM Clarity Cloud Migration
Context
As part of the IT modernization strategy of a major banking group, a cloud migration was necessary for the infrastructure hosting IBM Clarity (project portfolio management tool). The challenge was to ensure service continuity while improving the performance and scalability of the application used by over 1000 users.
Challenge
IBM Clarity is a software package with third-party application dependencies forming an ecosystem. If one application is not operational, the entire chain is impacted. The challenge was to organize ourselves to evolve together while respecting strict regulatory constraints (sensitive banking data) and a tight 6-month schedule. The team also had to manage resistance to change from some users accustomed to the old infrastructure.
Approach
I led the project by adopting an agile approach with 3-week sprints. We started with a complete audit of the existing infrastructure, identified risks and defined a phased migration strategy. I liaised with infrastructure, security and business teams. Load and regression tests were performed at each stage.
Results
- Successful migration on schedule with zero downtime
- 40% improvement in application response times
- 30% reduction in infrastructure costs
- 100% compliance with banking security requirements
- User satisfaction of 4.2/5 post-migration
Learnings
- The importance of constant communication with all stakeholders
- The value of automated testing to secure migrations
- The need to anticipate change management from the start of the project
- The effectiveness of a phased approach to minimize risks
